George J. Sowden was born in the United Kingdom. He is a designer with extensive experience in various areas of industrial design: from the enhancement of electronic products for the mass market to handcrafted products in limited numbers, including ceramics, glass, textiles and carpets. He made his first work experience in Italy with Ettore Sottsass. He worked for over 20 years with Olivetti and was one of the founders of Memphis. In 1981, he founded the Sowden Design studio, where he works as an industrial designer and where he and his collaborators continue their experimental and research work.
