Bitossi Ceramiche presents The shapes of resistance. This collaboration unveils a series of four sculptural ceramic vases — Vessel 1, Vessel 2, Vessel 3, and Mother Vessel — each embodying a strong presence through concept, form, and color. The vases evoke a powerful dialogue between materiality and form, between the primitive and the contemporary, highlighting the resilience of artistic expression.

The project was developed during the ongoing political unrest and civil protests in Georgia. The shapes of resistance reflects the concept of resistance not only as an act but as a way of being. It embodies the idea that resistance can take many forms, fluid like water that carves stone over time, or solid like a wall standing firm against the wind.

Ceramics represent one of humanity’s most primordial elements, as they have been in Georgian territory —deeply connected and rooted in the region’s history, even serving as vessels for wine in ancient times. It is within this context that the project by Rooms Studio was born, embodying a dialogue between memory and contemporary thought, expressed through ancient forms imbued with the passage of time.

These vases, with their simple shapes and ancient echoes, are crafted using the wheel-throwing technique in white clay. Coated in black lava and midnight blue glaze, they stand on dark pedestals, evoking a solemn presence reminiscent of a chorus of mourning women. Their strength and resilience emerge as expressions of rebirth, with the material itself becoming a symbol of transformation and renewal.
