Bitossi Ceramiche continues its creative dialogue with Patricia Urquiola, presenting Merlate, a trio of new tables that builds on the architectural vocabulary of last year’s vase collection. The new pieces were unveiled during Milan Design Week 2025.

Conceived as a natural extension of the original series, the Merlate tables translate the distinctive silhouette of medieval battlements into increasingly sculptural forms designed for the home. Asymmetric structures, fragmented volumes, and seemingly suspended shapes alternate between solid and void — forming a language through which Urquiola explores scale, structure, formal rhythm, and materiality. More than just functional surfaces, these pieces are imagined as micro-architectures, sculptures meant to personalize everyday interiors.

The project is created using the casting technique, in which liquid white clay is poured into plaster molds. Once the clay has solidified, the mold is opened and the form is removed, then smoothed and hand-carved to create the textured bugnato surface. It is then fired for the first time (bisque firing), glazed in one or more colors, and fired again. The collection includes three designs available in four different colors: bordeaux, cream, light blue, and mint.

A meeting point between architectural inspiration and material exploration, Merlate reflects the spirit of experimentation that defines Bitossi Ceramiche, a place where tradition is constantly reinterpreted through contemporary design.
