Starting in 1955, Ettore Sottsass designed several collections for the American importer Irving Richard of the Raymor Company in New York. Frequently exhibited at the Il Sestante Gallery in Milan, these collections are still produced and distributed by Bitossi today.

Ettore Sottsass is one of the masters of 20th-century Italian design. An architect, designer, photographer, and writer, in 1958 he began a collaboration with Olivetti as a design consultant, creating the first Italian electronic calculator. In the 1980s, he became the leading figure of the Memphis movement, which was destined to revolutionize the world of design.
